Have you ever wondered why Ferragosto feast is celebrating?
Many will know that on this day according to the Catholic tradition celebrates the Assumption of Our Lady. The dogma of the Assumption establishes the acceptance of the Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of Heaven with body and soul. Not everyone will know that this holiday has much older origins. In ancient Rome there was a period of celebration right this time of year. For a few days festivities took place throughout the Empire, celebrating the end of farm work. The name of this feast, no coincidence, derives from the Latin “Auguste Feriae” which means “Rest of Augustus”. This is in honor of the first Roman Emperor Augustus, which is named after August.
